William A. Switzer Provincial Park is located about four hours west of Edmonton, just outside the town of Hinton.

The drive follows Highway 16 through rolling foothills before the mountains begin appearing on the horizon.

First Impressions

As soon as we entered the park, one thing stood out immediately.

Everything felt peaceful.

The lakes were calm, the campground was surrounded by tall evergreens, and even though other campers were enjoying the park, it never felt crowded.

It had exactly the kind of atmosphere we hope for when planning a weekend away.

Beautiful Lakes Everywhere

One of the things that makes Switzer Provincial Park unique is the number of lakes scattered throughout the area.

Each one has its own character.

Some are perfect for paddling.

Others invite you to simply sit on the shoreline with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view.

Whether you're kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, or just taking photographs, it's difficult to find a bad view anywhere in the park.

Camping in the Park

The campground is well maintained and surrounded by mature forest, giving many campsites a nice sense of privacy.

It felt like the kind of campground where people naturally slow down.

Instead of constantly driving in and out, most visitors seemed content spending the day outdoors, walking, fishing, or relaxing around camp.

For us, it was the perfect place to unwind.

This park was a great destination for rooftop tent camping.

The spacious campsites made setup easy, and within a few minutes we were relaxing with a coffee while listening to the sounds of the forest.

Being surrounded by trees and waking up to fresh mountain air made it one of those camping mornings you wish lasted a little longer.

Sometimes they're simply the places that leave you feeling refreshed by the time you head home.

And that's exactly what this weekend gave us.
